A National Calling

The brigade sent members to the NSW 2006 Taskforce which operated in the western part of the state near Narrabri. The exercise proved to be quite an exercise in endurance and stamina even before the guys reached the staging area. Many lessons were learnt and brigade members were very proud of those guys that went away. Below is just a selection of photos taken.

A big welcome back also to John and Dave who recently returned from the 3rd Taskforce in NSW.

The joy of a 100 metre black-out SOP.

Thanks to a lightning strike, "Play it again Sam!"

Previous Taskforces

In 1997 the Brigade was part of three(3) Task forces which were sent to New South Wales to assist with Bushfires in their State.  Task Force 1 (7 members and 1 unit) and Task Force 3 (1member) fought Bushfires in the Connabarabran-Narrabi area and Task Force 4 (2 members and 1 unit) fought Bushfires in the Hunter Valley area. This was an exciting experience to see wildfires first hand and was a great learning experience for  all members who participated.  The Brigade has assisted other Groups and Brigades with fires in their areas and have had a number of fires within our own area, the largest in August 2000 which burnt out approximately 2500 hectares and took a week before it was out completely.

In April 1999 the Brigade sent twelve (12) members to NSW to be part of the Queensland Task Force sent to Gosford to contain an outbreak of Newcastle Disease in chicken, poultry and wild birds.  Each Brigade member received a certificate from the Ipswich City Council at its Australia Day Awards ceremony on 25/1/2000.

Members of the QFRS also assisted in the relief efforts following Cyclone Larry in north Queensland.

We are developing a series of posters to summarize our stories. Here is one such example.
