The Adventures of Blazer

One of the Brigade's most colourful, larger than life, and yet mysterious members is known to all as Blazer the Bear. Not everyone appreciates how talented Blazer is and so this page is dedicated to the adventurous life of our mate Blazer.

Blazer has always been part of the Ipswich Festival Parade. He greets children of all ages in his silent way and tries to teach about fire safety issues such as in a fire, get down low and go, go go!

and no, its not a case of too much alcoholic gum leaves.

Yes he is a real asset to the Brigade, when we can find him...

You see, Blazer hangs around with Super Heros sometimes.

As we found out at the Ipswich Show.

The Ipswich Show is a great place to teach the community about safety issues and being bush fire prepared.

Handing out brochures for example.

As much as he would like to, Blazer can't give the presentation on bushfire preparation. He can't talk.

Yes Blazer has the kids lining up to say hello most days.

Kids of all ages.

Blazer isn't afraid of anything, he'll give anything a go. As long as someone else drives...

The Show gives Blazer an opportunity to get out and about. Where there is a hot car, Blazer is there. Don't forget he comes from Ipswich.

Blazer has many mates around town. Some are real heros.

Some are our hard working political leaders.

Some are purple...

Some love milk...

and some friends who just clown around.

We found out that Blazer is multiskilled. He is a top shot!

But he wasn't interested in winning stuffed fluffy toys.

We didn't realise it but Blazer can dance. But he wouldn't win any prizes in that area.

We just couldn't get him off the dodgem cars.

He liked this mower though, perhaps we'll be able to afford one for the Station one day.

and then there was the Whizzer.

Yes our Blazer sure stands out in the crowd. Yet there are plenty of other ways he helps out.

Each year Blazer and the team from Ripley Valley help out at the Ipswich Hospital Children's Fun Run and competes in the mascot race.

Competition is normally fierce.

But Blazer always gives 110%.

He has shared the stage in glory some years.

and gracious in defeat, even though it was to a dodgy looking kangaroo.

A great day for the kids once again. Seems Blazer gets bigger and bigger each year at this event. Must be those red berries of July.

Blazer is always the centre of attention for some reason.

Sometimes he is just a show off.

Blazer is always a team player. This was no more evident than when the Brigade was invited to the official opening of the Centenary Highway extension project which runs from Springfield, through Ripley and onto Yamanto.

Sometimes he does make our mates in QPS a bit nervous.

Mainly when he asks for a ride on a motorbike.

Yes it was a very official day, we even got to say hello to the Premier.

But once again, Blazer attracted the kids.

and the fire ants, but we won't talk about them.

Blazer also likes the Defence Community Family Day in Queens Park.

He found a nice big RAAF truck to get his fat head into.

and perhaps the Army will lend us this grader to make fire breaks.

And then there is the Love Hate relationshiop with the RFS 'Lil Squirt'. It certainly caught Blazer's eye.

Firstly he doesn't fit in.

...and Blazer had to rescue it one day when it ran out of fuel.

But the centre of Blazer's life is children; especially on a simple visit to the local kindergarten.

Blazer's goal in life is to attract children's attention so that a message of awareness can go out to all families and members of the community.

Be aware of the dangers of fire in the home. Beware of the dangers of bushfires. And stay safe, so get down low and Go Go Go!.
