Protecting the Community - Redbank Plains - August 2009

On a peaceful Saturday afternoon when many of us were gardening or preparing for tomorrow's AGM, the pager went off, large grassfire at Redbank Plains, 643 and 646 need assistance. All Ripley Valley RFB units were asked to respond. Luckily conditions were favorable and the fire was extinguished within a few hours.

Incident Summary:

Fire Started: 14:00hrs on 29 August 2009

Fire Location: Bushland off Redbank Plains Road, Redbank Plains

Fire Appliances Involved: 643A, 646A, RV51, RV52, RV41, RV81 with Slip-On

Action Required: Initially a plan was considered to burn out the whole section of bushland which would have been over 40 Ha due to the fire rate of spread but winds died down soon after arrival and so extinguishment was chosen.

Incident Terminated: 20:00hrs with the fire extinguished.

The fuel load was considerable due to rain over recent years.

This exact location was last cleaned up by fire in August 2006.

Establishing the plan of attack; 643A was the initial IC Appliance. Ripley Station was also manned and support from Area Office arrived; thanks Brendan and Kaye.

RV52 working the edge.

Thanks guys for your efforts; it has been a busy few weeks.
