Well
it didn't take long (a lot sooner than I thought after recent rains)
for the Brigade to get called out to another sizable bushfire. Within
the space of five minutes on the night of 20th September, the Brigade
received a call out to two separate incidents. Dave and Jim with the
crews of RV52 and RV91 quickly cleaned up a grass fire in Ripley and
then joined all other units from Ripley Valley as well units from Mt
Forbes, Flinders Peak and Marburg RFB who were called to assist an Urban
Unit (645A) and Airforce fire control units with a large blaze in bushland
on the RAAF rifle range at Purga near Amberley. The strong winds and
difficult terrain where quite challenging and compounded by the fact
that the fire was being attacked at night.

Another
surprise aspect of the fire was the considerable amount of unexploded
ordinance that was being set-off by the advance of the fire. Brought
back memories for Steve from his army days.

Even
late into the night, the fire intensity continued as it spread up into
the hills.

units gathered for a late night snack and a revision of the plan.
