Protecting the Community - Grantham Strike Team - November 2009

The Brigade was asked to participate in a strike team to Grantham at the base of the Toowoomba ranges on Tuesday 24th November along with units from Marburg, Mt Forbes and Pine Mountain RFB's. Both RV51 and RV41 attended and were crewed by Steve P; Matt M, Neil I, Chucka and Matt P. The fire was once again in the vacinty of the infamous 17 Mile area. Infamous mainly because it must have been burnt about 6 times this season.

A bushfire had been burning for some days and local crews just needed a bit of help. John, the new "Ipswich One" led the convoy which arrived around 16:00hours after some slight detouring.

The briefing; to put in a very long back burn into the night.

Hazards of the job.

With 10km of burn to put in, Matt got plenty of practise.

A concerned spectator looked on.

Thanks to the guys that came along for the day.
