The
Brigade was asked to participate in a strike team to Glendale, a country
area between Wivenhoe Dam and Mt Glorious on Monday 28th September along
with units from Marburg, Mt Forbes and Pine Mountain RFB's. Both RV51
and RV52 attended and were crewed by George, Matt M, Squirt, Dave, Chucka
and Brian.
A
bushfire had been burning for some days and local crews were exhausted.
Ipswich One led the convoy which made it's way through some of South
East Queensland's more beautiful countryside.

On
arrival; a lone Helitack appliance was wetting down the edges but a
call came in from Firecomm SE that a grass fire had broke out back at
Fernvale so RV51 and Marburg 41 were sent on the errand.

This
massive grassfire which was also attended by three local appliances
was brought under control in maybe 6 minutes and so it was then back
to the Strike Team.

When
we got to the staging area, we received the bad news.
Hand
tools and back packs on a mountainside to blacken out the edges.

Squirt
and Matt watch on as a dozer was still putting in breaks with the incident
being directed by QLD Parks and Wildlife.

Brian
and Chucka nearly made it to the top of the mountain but it was only
an illusion.

It
was a slope that tested 'Ol RV51 to it's limits but we had to get water
up there somehow as it was a long walk up. Just not enough traction
to make it up all the way up the hill with loose dirt from the freshly
dozed track. Scenery was great though.

and
then there was the decent..
It
was knock off time soon after with the area made secure.
Thanks
to the guys that came along for the day.
