Protecting the Community - Deebing Heights Fire - 18 September 2011

Just as members were sitting down for lunch after the 2011 AGM, the pager went off with a Firecall to Deebing Heights where a bushfire had been reported in the creekline.

Ripley Valley RFB sent crews in all appliances.

Gary Chapman discusses the plan over the radio with Matt Mulroney, Incident Controller. Much of the active fire was burning in inaccessible terrain.

The fire was meandering in the vicinity of houses in the area and so back burning was undertaken to protect the properties.

The fire was quickly brought under control. During the overhaul of the scene, some symbolic finds were made.

Job well done, and around 5PM crews were able to head home.
