Protecting the Community - Deebing Heights January 2010

With most of the Valley looking green after the rains over the Christmas period, it was a surprise to get a call out to a grass fire to assist the Urbans at Deebing Heights estate on the 13th January; the first call of the year. The fire had spread into scrub land adjacent to houses.

Initially RV41 was required and so Dave and Antie responded. A second appliance was then called on and RV51 was despatched with Matt M, Matt C and Brian forming the crew. The fire was quickly brought under control and crews finished up early in the evening.

Smoke was visible for miles in the still mid afternoon air.

Fire creeping up to the back of some of the homes but a back burn was put in to protect the property.

The two Matt's, all smiles; if you could see them through the smoke.

Area made safe at 18:00hrs; fire size approx 4 Hectares.
