On
Friday 18th November 2011; a number of SEQ volunteers were flown to
the Charleville area to assist and relieve local crews. There had been
numerous fires caused by lightening strikes over the weeks before. This
is a snap shot of the deployment through the eyes of our very own Matt
Phillips from Ripley Valley RFB who was part of the high flying team.

The
flight out was in what rural firefighters lovingly call a flying cigar.
Better than driving though.

As
with any deployments; there's always a bit of hurry up and wait. However
our Matt did it in style.

Local
crews joined up with the deployment crews.

After
five days, the crew members were flown home. The vast and varied country
side was clearly evident from these aerial shots.

Fires
were evident in quite a few areas as the plane approached the south
east corner again. The fire season of 2011 drags on.
